Why ginkgo is popular
Ginkgo leaf extract is widely marketed for memory and cognitive support.
What NCCIH says
NCCIH reports no conclusive evidence that ginkgo is helpful for any health condition and says it has not been shown to prevent or slow dementia. Research on cognitive performance in healthy people remains uncertain.
Safety
Ginkgo can cause dizziness, gastrointestinal symptoms or headache. It may increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants such as warfarin and can interact with other medicines.
How this applies to blends
If a multi-ingredient supplement contains ginkgo, the exact dose and the user's medications matter. The presence of ginkgo does not itself establish cognitive benefit.
